Leslie, Mary and Anne travel to Nashville, TN

I took Ann and Mary with me to visit the Parthenon in Nashville, Tennessee. We went to the Parthenon, which is a full scale, completely restored replica of the Parthenon in Athens, Greece. The replica was put up as a temporary structure for the Centennial Expo in the 1800's. A few years later, the city decided to keep the structure because the are known as the Athens of the South. Inside the Parthenon there is an art museum and replicas of the statues that are found on the Acropolis in Greece.

The latitude and longitude of the Parthenon was 36 degrees 8.8 minutes North, 86 degrees 48.6 minutes west.

We traveled 408 miles total from Carbondale to Nashville and back.

Anne Bonny

Welcome Aboard! Ahoy Mateys!! We set sail on August 29th, 2007. Leaving the comforts of her home in the Wham Education Building at Southern Illinois University, Anne boarded the ship of Calico Jack.
Anne and her friend, Mary Read, joined the crew of buccaneers that sailed under the Jolly Roger.

Anne and Mary are 'dawgs' that will help the students of CI 424: Teaching Elementary Social Studies learn about geography and technology skills.

So come join the adventure, check our blog entries, and discover the historical treasures of Southern Illinois.
